Michael T. Avara
Michael T. Avara is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Horizon Lines. He is responsible for the accounting, finance, treasury, risk management and investor relations functions of the company. Previously, Mr. Avara served as Vice President, Investor Relations and Treasurer of Horizon Lines. Prior to rejoining Horizon Lines in March 2004, Mr. Avara spent 20 years in various accounting and finance functions at CSX Corporation and its subsidiaries, including seven years with the predecessor companies CSX Lines, LLC and Sea-Land Service Inc. He served as Controller for Sea-Land Service Inc. and CSX Lines, LLC, as well as Assistant Vice President of Corporate Finance for CSX Corporation. Mr. Avara also spent three years in public accounting with Coopers & Lybrand and is a certified public accountant, maintaining a license in the State of Maryland. Mr. Avara received both a Master of Business Administration in Finance degree and Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland.
