Hawaii Announcement : Operations : Winter Schedule for the PEX Service

Dear Valued Hawaii Customer:

Horizon Lines’ mission is to provide reliable, on-time transportation of your cargo to Hawaii. The key to providing consistent on-time arrivals is insuring our vessels sail on-time from the port of load. This is especially important for our Hawaii sailings from the Port of Oakland on Wednesdays (our Pacific Express or PEX Service). Our goal is to arrive in Honolulu every Sunday at midnight, which will provide for Monday cargo availability on Oahu and timely connections to the Neighbor Islands. During the winter months the ocean conditions present a challenge and extend the transit time from the mainland to Hawaii. We have determined that in order to consistently arrive in Honolulu on-time, our PEX vessels must sail from Oakland promptly at 4:00pm on Wednesdays. Factoring in the time to finalize loading the vessel and lashing the loads, Horizon Lines must receive all cargo by the cargo cut-offs on Wednesdays. Late arriving containers delay vessel operations and jeopardize on-time departures. Horizon Lines is requesting that every effort be made to insure that your cargo is delivered to the Port of Oakland before the cargo cut-offs to avoid running the risk of missing the targeted vessel. Receiving all cargo prior to the cargo cut-offs provides for on-time departures and arrivals.
