Horizon Lines of Alaska has filed today a 5.25% General Rate Increase with the Surface Transportation Board for freight moving to and from Kodiak, Alaska and Dutch Harbor, Alaska. This rate increase applies to Horizon Lines’ Alaska Tariffs 313, 314, 318 and 453 and will be effective on January 10, 2009.
We are taking this action because of increasing costs throughout our transportation network to and from Alaska including significant cost increases in marine operations (stevedoring and port charges), trucking, rail, terminal overhead and maintenance.
We will continue our efforts to minimize future cost increases.
