Dear Valued Customer:
Horizon Lines of Alaska has filed today with the Surface Transportation Board a general rate increase of 5% in Alaska Tariff HRZK 301. The effective date of the increase is December 13, 2009.
We are taking this action because of increasing costs throughout our transportation network to and from Alaska, and anticipated investments in equipment we are making in the Alaska trade. Examples of increasing costs are maintenance, terminal overhead and port charges including Pacific Maritime Association assessments relating to benefits. We are working very hard to minimize these and future cost increases.
