Puerto Rico Announcement : Operations : Jacksonville Services Winter Vessel Schedule Update

PUERTO RICO SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Jacksonville Services Winter Vessel Schedule Update
Dear Valued Customer:
Our Jacksonville services depart Florida Tuesday and Friday evenings and arrive in San Juan Monday and Friday mornings, respectively. As we did last year, Horizon Lines is adjusting our San Juan arrival times for the winter season.
Effective with the November 19th arrival of Horizon Producer voyage PD724S our estimated arrival time in San Juan will be 9:00AM. We are communicating this change so our customers can plan receipt of their cargo in San Juan more effectively.
The main factors contributing to the arrival time updates in San Juan are:
1) Expiration of Daylight Savings time on November 4th, 2012 - Because the US mainland observes Daylight Savings and Puerto Rico does not, this change removed an hour from the transit allowance between Jacksonville and San Juan.
2) The Marine Mammal Protection Act - This federal law protects Atlantic Right Whales and mandates a vessel speed restriction of 10 nautical miles per hour outside Jacksonville, FL starting November 15th, 2012. This speed restriction removes approximately 1.5 hours from our transit allowance between Jacksonville and San Juan.
Horizon Lines customers can best assist the situation by furnishing loads to our Jacksonville terminal as early as possible prior to each sailing. This allows for a more efficient stowage operation and earlier departure times which will directly help our arrival times in San Juan.
We anticipate all cargo will be made available in San Juan during regular business hours despite the later arrival.
